Prolonged blackouts in Havana and across Cuba have led to protests as the government warned citizens that it is mostly out of fuel to run the power grid.

“We have absolutely no fuel [oil], and absolutely no diesel,” said energy minister Vicente de la O Levy in an interview with state-run media.

Under the US blockade, parts of the capital Havana have been plunged into 20 to 22-hour blackout periods because of the blockade, he continued.
